Shoulder resurfacing surgery
SHOULDER RESURFACING ARTHROPLASTY
Our skilled orthopaedic surgeons can replace the damaged surfaces of your shoulder ball and socket joint
What is shoulder resurfacing?
This surgical procedure can be done when arthritis has affected your shoulder, causing pain and stiffness. The aim of the procedure is to replace only the damaged joint surfaces, rather than the whole shoulder joint.
Need to know
You'll be cared for in hospital for about three days following your operation. One of our physiotherapists will give you some exercises to help with your recovery and you may need to have outpatient physiotherapy until you have improved the range of movement in your shoulder. You will need to wear a sling for several weeks to rest your arm and shoulder.
Your physiotherapist will show you how to take your sling off and on to complete your exercises. Your consultant will let you know when you can get back to your usual routine, including going back to work, exercise and driving. Depending on your job, you may need several weeks off work.
Paying for medical treatment
You don't need medical insurance to have fast access to our top consultants, extensive range of treatments, diagnostic tests and surgical procedures at our world-class facilities.
