Foot orthotics
Insoles or custom orthotic supports for shoes to take the strain off joints, reduce pain and increase foot mobility for those affected by poor foot posture.
What are orthotics and how can they help?
Orthotics or foot orthoses are one non-surgical option to correct foot posture or lower limb deformities and relieve the associated symptoms. Your consultant may suggest standard insoles to support the arch of your foot or custom orthotics tailored to correct your specific foot condition.
Foot posture refers to the the arch of your feet and how weight is distributed across your heel, toes and the ball of your foot. Flat feet (overpronation) or high arches (supination) are two extremes of foot posture. Both can be an underlying cause of chronic pain, potentially affecting your legs, hips and lower back.
Your consultant may recommend a biomechanical assessment and gait analysis to determine how your foot posture may be affecting the way you stand, walk or run. Digital foot scanning technology can also identify pressure points caused by poor foot posture. Orthotic shoes may also be an option.
