Hybrid Imaging Therapy Unit
St John's Wood
London
NW8 9LE
The Hybrid Imaging & Therapy Unit (HITU) at The Wellington Hospital offers all the modern contemporary tools of diagnostic nuclear medicine imaging by way of PET-CT, SPECT-CT and Radionuclide Therapy under the umbrella of one hospital.
Our range of work
SPECT-CT and PET-CT are powerful problem-solving tools used in diagnosing and determining the severity of both benign and malignant conditions in multiple organ systems. By combining functional isotope techniques with exquisite anatomy afforded by CT scans, these hybrid techniques achieve a detailed assessment of complex conditions that may not be possible using conventional forms of imaging alone.
The unit is also equipped to perform Radionuclide Therapy procedures, tailored to deliver highly targeted radio-active treatment to treat a range of cancers.

Our team and collaborations
Our consultant team of Nuclear Medicine Radiologists and Physicians from London teaching hospitals, come with sub-speciality interests and many with strong academic credentials.
The team are also supported by skilled technologists and highly experienced medical physics experts. The bed-rock of our unit is formed by a team of high calibre technologists who support the consultant team in administration of diagnostic agents and treatments, operating sophisticated equipment and complex software.
Our unit encourages clinical audit and academic work, with several peer-reviewed papers published in academic journals in collaboration with clinical teams.
Apart from accepting referrals from individual clinicians, we also partner and work closely with several sub-speciality clinical groups, supporting for instance:
- Spinal and orthopaedic surgeons at HCA UK hospitals and other independent sector and NHS facilities and national elite sports organisations in trouble-shooting spinal and orthopaedic problems, with musculoskeletal bone SPECT-CT
- The Wellington Neuroendocrine Tumours (NET) Unit with diagnostic PET and Lu1-77 Dotatate treatment modalities
- With Liver MDTs and interventional radiologists for treatment of liver tumours with intra-arterial radionuclide agents (SIRT Therapy),
- The multidisciplinary oncology team at The Prostate Centre, offering them an integrated Ga-68 PSMA PET-CT diagnostics and counterpart Lu177 PSMA treatment service for metastatic prostate cancer and supporting the weekly MDM discussion of cases.
