Dr Vasileios Chortis is a Consultant Endocrinologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He earned his Medical Degree with a Distinction from the National University of Athens, Greece in 2008. He trained as a specialist in Endocrinology and Diabetes at University Hospitals Birmingham and qualified as a Consultant in 2020. He received his Ph.D. in Endocrinology from the University of Birmingham in 2017 for research in Adrenal Endocrinology.
He also completed additional training as a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital in the U.S. for three years (2021-2024). Dr Chortis has a clinical interest in a wide spectrum of Endocrine conditions, including Adrenal Endocrinology, Thyroid disorders, Reproductive Endocrinology and Polycystic Ovary an Syndrome and Pituitary Endocrinology. He is an active researcher and holds a position as a Clinical Associate Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Birmingham. His research focus is on Adrenal Endocrinology and Endocrine Oncology. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers and received funding for his research from the Wellcome Trust, the Academy of Medical Sciences, and Harvard Medical School.
He has received Awards for his research work from the Society for Endocrinology (UK), the Endocrine Society (US), and the European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumours. Dr Chortis is also passionate about medical education and he has been teaching undergraduate students at the University of Birmingham for over 10 years on a wide range of subjects, including Adrenal and Thyroid Endocrinology, Bone Disorders, Reproductive Endocrinology, and Diabetes Mellitus.
