Dr Taj Saber is a highly accomplished and experienced Consultant in Rheumatology based in the West Midlands. She is the consultant rheumatologist for the West Midlands community rheumatology team with Modality in the NHS as well. She sees her private patients in Birmingham.
She specialises in diagnosing and treating most common rheumatology conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, pregnancy considerations with arthritis, gout, pseudogout, juvenile arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, polymyalgia rheumatica, osteoarthritis, as well as connective tissue diseases (CTDs) e.g. Sjogren disease and lupus. Like most rheumatologists she is deeply concerned about treating inflammatory arthritis such as gout and rheumatoid arthritis early, and effectively.
Dr Saber qualified as a doctor and then spent about 10 years working in various parts of Ireland where she gained experience in General Medicine before winning a prestigious Newman scholarship in 2007. This started her journey in Rheumatology, that led to her gaining an MD in Rheumatology research in conditions including Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis. During this time she travelled extensively and spoke on the international stage in the American and European rheumatology conference about her research on the above subjects. This included the initial research in biologic treatments as they were starting to be used more widely. She then trained in the West Midlands where she gained experience in lupus, and pregnancy with rheumatological conditions which she found very exciting. She wished to further expand her horizons and did a European certification course in juvenile arthritis (children with arthritis). She is also an honorary clinical researcher with the University of Birmingham.
Dr Saber is regularly commended by patients and colleagues alike for her good rapport with patients and excellent communication skills, explaining conditions so that the patient feels at ease with their diagnosis. She likes to make sure her patients have a good understanding of their diagnosis and the treatment options available before starting treatment.
