About
Mr. Stephen Metcalfe serves as a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon at The Harborne Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2001, followed by Neurosurgical training in Newcastle and Middlesbrough. Further, he completed a Spinal Fellowship in Adelaide, Australia.
Mr. Metcalfe conducts various aspects of Spinal Neurosurgery, excluding complex deformity, encompassing degenerative conditions, trauma, and tumours, with a particular focus on intramedullary and intradural tumours.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Metcalfe exhibits a keen interest in medical education and training, presently serving as a Royal College of Surgeons of England Surgical Tutor for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
He holds fellowships with the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Additionally, he maintains membership with the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS), the British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS), and AO Spine.
