Professor Steve Pereira studied science and medicine at University of New South Wales, Sydney, with postgraduate training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Guy’s and King’s College hospitals, London. Pereira did advanced endoscopy training in Paris, Amsterdam and Indianapolis.
Since 2000, Steve Pereira has been a consultant at University College Hospital and at Royal Free Hospital since 2008. He is also a Professor of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at UCL.
Pereira's clinical and research interests focus on the causes, early diagnosis and treatment of liver and pancreatic cancer, as well as benign biliary and pancreatic diseases. These represent a vast number of patients referred for specialist opinion to UCLH, and the activity of the research group is linked closely with the clinical hepatopancreaticobiliary service at UCLH and the Royal Free.
Steve Pereira is past Chairman of the British Society of Gastroenterology Pancreatic Section and President of the Pancreatic Society of GB&I, and current Endoscopy lead on the HPB Board of London Cancer as well as serving on the research committees of the British Society of Gastroenterology and Guts UK.
In his spare time he likes to focus on fitness and he loves spending time with his family.
