Professor Santis is a highly respected and experienced Clinician and Researcher in Respiratory Medicine. He has been Consultant Physician at Guy’s & St Thomas’s NHS Trust for 29 years and Professor of Thoracic Oncology & Interventional Bronchoscopy at King’s College London.
He has wide experience in all aspects of Respiratory Medicine, helping patients with complex lung problems including those with lung cancer and other cancers in the chest. He also led the management of complications in the lung from cancer treatments, including interstitial lung diseases complicating immunotherapy.
Professor Santis was one of the first in the UK to establish Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) in clinical practice in 2006; his diagnostic accuracy using this technique is among the best in the world. He is now on the forefront of Interventional Bronchoscopy once again. as he has helped establish Ion Robotic Navigation Bronchoscopy at HCA, one of the first such developments in Europe. He is able to combine this with EBUS in the same setting, which will expedite the diagnostic and staging pathway of patients with lung cancer and other cancers affecting the chest.
In addition to being an expert clinician, he has been an active researcher in biomedical science. He has held a number of leadership roles but now his focus is on delivering excellent clinical care and developing the role of Ion Robotic Navigation Bronchoscopy, which he believes will revolutionise the assessment of patients with lung diseases.
It is important that HCA is transparent about our relationship with those doctors who provide us with clinical guidance on delivering the best possible care to patients and operating our hospitals safely and efficiently. We set out here some of the ways in which we work together and the amount we pay this doctor for such services.
