Dr Peter Mbanu is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in rectal and anal cancers. He treats his patients with chemotherapy and radiotherapy for these cancers.

Dr Peter Mbanu graduated with Honours from the University of Liverpool in 2006. He completed his postgraduate medical and specialist Clinical Oncology training in Liverpool and at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. Since 2021, he has served as a Consultant in Clinical Oncology at The Christie NHS Trust, Manchester, with a brief period as a Consultant at the North Wales Cancer Centre, Glan Clwyd.

He has a particular interest in using radiotherapy and chemotherapy to achieve organ preservation in rectal cancer, aiming to defer or avoid stomas and improve long-term patient outcomes. He completed a research degree focused on enhancing organ preservation in rectal cancer and was awarded an MD(RES) from the University of Manchester in 2022.

He is interested in the treatment of anal cancer and is a key member of the anal cancer MDT at the Christie Hospital, which is the largest anal cancer MDT in the country. He is also interested in anal cancer clinical trials and ways to improve treatments and outcomes for anal cancer patients.

As the Clinical Lead for Acute Oncology services at Salford Hospital, Dr Mbanu oversees the service by collaborating with other doctors and nurses to provide care for cancer patients admitted to one of the largest teaching hospitals in the Northwest region.
