Mr. Nikolaos Chatzizacharias is a distinguished consultant specializing in hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) and liver transplant surgery based in Birmingham. His areas of expertise encompass locally advanced pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), livercancer, gallbladder surgery, and complex surgical resections. Mr. Chatzizacharias is highly skilled in both open and minimally invasive surgical procedures, including robotic surgery. Mr. Chatzizacharias consults privately at The Harborne Hospital and leads the Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer Programme at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, the largest of its kind in the UK. Since 2017, he has also been practicing at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

With over 20 years of experience, Mr. Chatzizacharias graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with an MD and later earned a PhD in pancreatic cancer research. He completed his basic surgical training in Oxford and advanced specialist training in upper gastrointestinal, hepato-pancreato-biliary, and transplant surgery through the prestigious East of England and University of Cambridge rotation.

Mr. Chatzizacharias completed a fellowship in hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is a Fellow of both The Royal College of Surgeons of England and The American College of Surgeons. His dedication to advancing pancreatic cancer treatments has established him as a leader in his field.

In addition to his clinical practice, Mr. Chatzizacharias is active in research, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international conferences. He holds an honorary associate clinical professor position at the University of Birmingham and serves as the principal investigator for the DISSECT trial, which explores the role of periadventitial dissection in improving surgical margins in resectable pancreatic cancer surgery.
