Mr Toufan Bahrami is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Harefield Hospital where he leads the minimally invasive and endoscopic cardiac surgery service. He has considerable expertise in endoscopic minimally invasive heart surgery, particularly mitral valve repair surgery and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG).

Mr Bahrami qualified at Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital in Paris, France where he later trained under various pioneering doctors, including Professor Alain Carpentier, Sir Magdi Yacoub and Professor Alain Cabrol. His successful career has seen him complete between 3,000 and 4,000 surgical procedures on the heart. These utilised innovative surgical techniques and includes the UK’s first endoscopic vein harvesting surgery, implanting the first Inspiris Resilia aortic valve using a minimally invasive technique and the first worldwide mitral valve repair, valve repair ablation and CABG using a minimally invasive technique. He also was the first surgeon to perform the first double-lung transplant from a non-heart beating donor.

Mr Bahrami continues to have a strong clinical research programme with a focus on the development of new technology in cardiac surgery. His work has been widely published in medical journals and has made him a highly respected leader in his field.
