Joey Cazabon is a Consultant Ophthalmologist, Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgeon. He completed his Ophthalmic surgical training at St Paul's Eye Unit, Liverpool in 2006. In addition, he has undertaken a year of specialist Vitreoretinal surgical fellowship training at Oxford Eye Hospital.
He worked as a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Oxford Eye Hospital and Southampton University Hospital before relocating to Chester in 2008. He established the Medical and Surgical Retinal Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital when he was appointed as a consultant in 2008 and has received clinical excellence awards.
Joey is a very experienced consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon having completed over 5,000 cataract procedures and 3,000 Vitreo-Retinal procedures. He has a special interest in vision restoration using premium intraocular lens implants including multifocal and toric lenses. His surgical expertise encompasses all aspects of vitreoretinal surgery, complex cataract surgery and ocular trauma cases. Some of his vitreo-retinal procedures and treatment includes macular hole surgery, retinal detachment surgery, epiretinal membrane surgery, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion and successful treatment for floaters as well as YAG laser capsulotomy.
Joey is well known in the North West of England for managing patients whom has undergone complicated cataract surgery and requiring specialist interventions. He continually audits his own practice to maintain the highest standards of medical and surgical care.
Joey has a keen interest in teaching and has been surgically training trainee Ophthalmic surgeons for over 15 years. He has published extensively with over 25 publications in various national and international peer-reviewed journals.
Joey is an avid Liverpool Football Club supporter and is also passionate about West Indies Cricket.
He has particular expertise in macular hole surgery, retinal detachment surgery, epiretinal membrane surgery, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion and successful treatment for floaters. He has a special interest in the following Multifocal and Toric Lens Implants, Complex cataract surgery and Intraocular Exchange.
