Prof. Rakesh Uppal is a Consultant Cardiac and Aortic Surgeon at Barts Heart Centre and Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at Barts and the London School of Medicine. He runs a busy tertiary cardiac surgical service, specializing in valve repair and aortic dissection. Prof. Uppal's research interests include renal failure following surgery, stem cell treatments for heart failure, and the genetics of cardiac disease. He has spent time at Duke University studying right ventricular function and is involved in setting up a large life sciences cluster in London. Prof. Uppal has published 150 papers and is an expert in mitral and tricuspid valve repair, coronary artery bypass grafting, and aortic root and arch surgery.
