About
Mr. Janos Z Balega is a highly skilled Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist with extensive experience and specialised training in the field of gynaecology. His training commenced in Hungary before furthering his expertise in the United Kingdom and the United States, including a fellowship in Indianapolis.
With a focus on cancer surgery, Mr. Balega has developed particular expertise in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery, radical, and exenterative surgery for primary and recurrent gynaecological cancers. He completed his subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology at prestigious institutions such as St Bartholomew's Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
As a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at the City Hospital, Mr. Balega holds certification in Colposcopy and serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Birmingham University.
Mr. Balega's areas of expertise include the management of ovarian cysts, period problems, postmenopausal bleeding, HPV infection, and abnormal smears. He is recognized as an accredited colposcopist and provides counselling to patients on gynaecological cancer genetic risks.
With specialised training in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery and ovarian cancer surgery, Mr. Balega is proficient in performing minimally invasive procedures for ovarian cysts and various benign and cancerous gynaecological conditions. He is particularly adept at laparoscopic day case hysterectomies for both benign and cancerous conditions, as well as laparoscopic radical hysterectomies for cervical cancer.
Mr. Balega is renowned for his expertise in fertility-sparing surgery for cervical cancer, including laparoscopic radical trachelectomy. Additionally, he has an outstanding track record in ovarian cancer surgery, performing operations of all ranges, from ovarian cyst removal to total hysterectomy and ultra-radical ovarian cancer debulking surgery.
As the risk lead for the Pan-Birmingham Gynaecological Cancer Centre, Mr. Balega is dedicated to ensuring safe and efficient patient care. He is also actively involved in the Clinical Advisory Panel of 'Target Ovarian Cancer', assisting the charity with patient communication, and serves as a regular reviewer for the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
