Professor Eric Jauniaux is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with more than three decades of experience in maternal and fetal medicine. In 2002, he was appointed Professor of Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine at University College London. His academic work has received international recognition, particularly for research into fetal development, placental function, and placental disorders affecting pregnancy.
He is affiliated with the Early Pregnancy Unit at University College London Hospitals and is a member of the Reproductive Health team at the EGA Institute for Women’s Health at UCL. Professor Jauniaux has authored or co authored more than 420 peer reviewed scientific publications and has edited or co edited 13 academic books, including Embryonic Medicine and Therapy with Sir Robert Edwards, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine in 2010.
In 2006, he co founded Medical Aid Films, a UK registered charity dedicated to producing multimedia educational resources to support maternal and child health training in low resource settings. The organisation has received recognition including the BAFTA Gift of the Academy award in 2017 and the UK Asian Voice Charity Award in 2019.
His clinical practice includes general obstetrics, management of multiple pregnancies, prenatal screening and diagnostic procedures, routine and high risk antenatal care, assessment and management of placental and umbilical cord abnormalities, and early pregnancy complications such as recurrent miscarriage. He also undertakes office based gynaecological care and has particular expertise in obstetric ultrasound and maternal fetal medicine.
