Mr Chris Hemmerdinger is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in cataract surgery, glaucoma and corneal disorders. He undertook his medical training at Manchester University and was appointed as a Consultant at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2011, where he was clinical lead for three years. In 2016 Mr Hemmerdinger was appointed his current position, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Lead at Macclesfield District General Hospital. As glaucoma lead, he is responsible for the service and is involved in training medical students and junior surgeons.
In addition to general ophthalmology, Mr Hemmerdinger performs all types of glaucoma surgery, including non-penetrating and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and laser treatments for glaucoma (SLT). He also has a specialist interest in corneal conditions.
Mr Hemmerdinger performs over 800 procedures annually for glaucoma and cataracts using monofocal, toric and multifocal lenses. Currently, he was President of the Medical Contact lens and Ocular Surface Association (MCLOSA). He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the College of Optometrists.
