Alex is a highly experienced Consultant Neurosurgeon based at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, with a distinguished career dedicated to skull base surgery, pituitary disease, and the surgical treatment of facial pain. He is on the GMC Specialist Register and has been a substantive Consultant since 2012.
Following his medical degree at Padua University in Italy, he undertook neurosurgical training in Newcastle upon Tyne, completing advanced fellowships in skull base surgery in Pittsburgh, USA. He holds a Master’s degree in Surgical Technology from Imperial College London, where his work focused on innovations such as virtual reality and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Alex is internationally recognised for his contributions to endoscopic and minimally invasive neurosurgery, with a particular interest in complex pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, and chordomas. His research has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and his surgical series on endoscopic pituitary surgery is one of the most cited in the field.
He has been invited to lecture at major international meetings and has served as faculty on multiple skull base cadaveric courses. He is also involved in medical education and research into neuroplasticity and brain performance enhancement.
Alongside his NHS work, he offers private consultations and surgical care at HCA Harborne hospital in Birmingham. His private practice reflects the same high standards of multidisciplinary care and surgical precision, with a patient-focused ethos and emphasis on clear, compassionate communication.
