Mr Desai feels truly humbled by the trust so many patients place in him — some travelling hundreds of miles for their care. Over the years, he has carried out more than 35,000 eye operations. (The average surgeon performs around 33 cataract operations a year1.) He is frequently sought for second opinions in challenging cases Teaching is one of Mr Desai’s greatest joys. He has personally trained more than 85 junior doctors in cataract surgery, many of whom fondly call him “the best teacher ever.” Based on data from the National Cataract Audit, Mr Desai ranked among the top 10–15 cataract surgeons in the country for the number of operations performed. He also undertakes highly complex procedures, including restoring vision for more than 350 patients whose lenses had clouded due to manufacturing defects or intolerance to Multifocal IOLs.
