About

Mr Michael James Williamson is a Consultant Foot and Ankle and Major Trauma Surgeon practising at St George’s Hospital Major Trauma Centre. His adult foot and ankle practice encompasses all aspects of ankle, hindfoot, midfoot and forefoot pathology, as well as traumatic injuries. His approach is firmly patient-centred, ensuring individuals receive up-to-date, evidence-based information and benefit from a trusting, supportive relationship from initial consultation through to rehabilitation. He places strong emphasis on patient autonomy and tailoring treatment plans to each person’s needs, expectations and lifestyle.

Mr Williamson studied medicine at the University of Cambridge, where he gained a Full Blue in Hockey, captaining the Blues Men’s team and representing Great Britain Under-21s. During his medical training, he completed an elective at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He undertook core surgical training in London before completing higher surgical training through the highly competitive South West London training programme. He is double fellowship trained, having completed the Surrey Foot and Ankle Fellowship followed by a Fellowship in Major Trauma and Limb Reconstruction at St George’s Major Trauma Centre, where he now serves as a consultant.

He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, with a focus on foot and ankle surgery, trauma and medical education, and has presented his research at national and international conferences. He is actively involved in surgical education, serving as Assigned Educational Supervisor for trauma and orthopaedic core surgical trainees at St George’s, teaching on surgical skills courses, organising a consultant-ready training programme for trainees, and working for many years as an instructor on the Royal College of Surgeons Advanced Trauma and Life Support course.
