Dr Matthew Ryan is a consultant cardiologist at St Thomas’ Hospital and a senior lecturer at King’s College London, with subspecialist expertise in interventional cardiology. His clinical practice covers both general and interventional cardiology, managing a wide range of heart-related symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, fainting, breathlessness, and leg swelling. He has particular expertise in the treatment of angina, complex coronary artery disease, coronary microvascular dysfunction, and heart failure. Dr Ryan is highly skilled in coronary procedures including angiography and angioplasty, and regularly uses advanced techniques such as intracoronary imaging, coronary physiology, rotational atherectomy, and mechanical circulatory support.
In 2024, he was awarded a prestigious research fellowship jointly funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and the Medical Research Council (MRC). His research has also been supported by the British Heart Foundation and the National Institutes of Health (USA). Dr Ryan’s academic work explores the relationship between coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular conditions, with a focus on developing and evaluating new technologies through clinical trials to improve outcomes across a range of heart diseases.
