Jonathan van Dellen is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon with a subspecialist focus on pelvic floor disorders, including rectal prolapse and faecal incontinence, as well as inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease and complex proctological conditions such as anal fistulas and pilonidal sinus disease. His NHS practice is based at Croydon University Hospital, where he works within multidisciplinary teams including Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Pelvic Floor, Urogynaecology and Endometriosis services. His clinical approach involves collaboration with dietitians, specialist nurses and pelvic floor physiotherapists to support coordinated management. He is accredited in colonoscopy and is a member of the Pelvic Floor Society, the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Society and the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
He graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in 2006 and completed surgical training in London and the South West Thames region. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in his areas of subspecialist interest. In 2017, he was awarded a doctorate from King’s College London for research examining outcomes in colorectal surgery and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he serves as the Royal College of Surgeons Tutor at his NHS trust and is involved in the education and training of resident doctors and allied health professionals.
