Mr. Jamie Vatish is a distinguished Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon based in Birmingham. He specialises in the management of all types of breast disease, with a particular emphasis on breast cancer surgery. With extensive experience in treating breast cancer and benign conditions, he also provides reassurance to his patients. Mr. Vatish has undergone advanced training in oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction, utilising techniques designed to maintain the breast’s aesthetic appearance while ensuring optimal cancer treatment. His expertise was recently showcased in the television series Surgeons: A Matter of Life and Death.
Among a select group of surgeons in the West Midlands, Mr. Vatish is skilled in performing partial breast reconstruction using chest wall perforator flaps, a technique that can eliminate the need for a mastectomy.
He earned his medical degree from Guys, Kings, and St. Thomas' Medical School in London in 2010, along with an additional Bachelor's degree in Psychology. After completing higher surgical training in the Midlands, he was chosen for the prestigious TIG National Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship, regarded as the highest level of breast surgery training in the UK. During this fellowship at the Leeds Breast Unit, he further developed his expertise, particularly in the management of Breast-Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare immune-related cancer associated with breast implants.
At present, Mr. Vatish practices within the NHS at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, home to one of the largest Breast Departments in the UK. As part of his role, he contributes to the specialised team treating Breast Angiosarcomas for patients across the West Midlands—complex cancers requiring expert care to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Beyond his clinical work, Mr. Vatish is actively involved in medical education and training. Holding a degree in medical education, he serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He also teaches at the Royal College of Surgeons in London and has published extensively in esteemed journals such as The Lancet, The British Journal of Surgery, and The British Medical Journal. His primary research interests include breast cancer genomics and breast-conserving surgery.
