Mr. Gregory Firth is a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in the treatment of children with both elective conditions and trauma-related injuries. He practices at the Children’s Orthopaedic Practice at The Portland Hospital and also serves as a Substantive Consultant at The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in Kent.
Mr. Firth qualified as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in South Africa in 2009, and subsequently completed two international fellowships in paediatric orthopaedics in Canada and Australia in 2010 and 2011. He achieved CESR equivalence in trauma and orthopaedics in the UK in 2020. From 2011 to 2018, Mr. Firth led the paediatric orthopaedic unit at Baragwanath Hospital in South Africa, the world’s third-largest hospital, where he developed and expanded its services. During this time, he also maintained a private practice in Johannesburg. His current practice encompasses both elective and traumatic paediatric orthopaedic conditions.
In 2008, Mr. Firth completed a Master’s project on hip dysplasia and went on to establish a paediatric orthopaedic research team in Johannesburg between 2011 and 2018. He has supervised, mentored, and evaluated over 20 Master’s projects in orthopaedics and is presently an honorary lecturer at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), continuing his involvement in academic mentoring. With over 50 peer-reviewed publications, he has also served as the local principal investigator on four multicenter randomized controlled trials and has been active as a secretary, joint sectional editor, and reviewer in multiple orthopaedic societies.
Mr. Firth has presented his research nationally and internationally and is actively involved in several ongoing research projects in the UK. His work has earned him numerous awards, including prizes for best registrar, best-presented paper, a research training fellowship grant, and recognitions for orthopaedic literature and poster presentations.
