Dr Ferras Alwan is a Consultant Haematologist specialising in bleeding disorders and thrombosis (blood clots). His NHS practice is based at Imperial College NHS Trust where, in addition to being the Head of Service for Haemostasis and Thrombosis, he is the centre director of the Imperial Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre.

Dr Alwan's main clinical interests include management of deep vein thromboses and pulmonary emboli, clots in the context of cancer, low platelets, unexplained and easy bruising or bleeding, anticoagulation, thrombophilias and rare haemostatic disorders such as haemophilia, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and Von Willebrand Disease.

Academically, his PhD studies focused on congenital and acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, specifically improving prognostication and risk factor recognition in this rare disorder.
