Dr Suneil Aggarwal is a Consultant Cardiologist based at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in Barts Heart Centre, the largest cardiac centre in the UK. He has extensive subspecialty expertise in interventional cardiology as well as expertise in all areas of general cardiology.
Dr Aggarwal completed his medical degree at University College London Medical School in 2002 and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2005. He completed his general medical training in Oxford and completed his specialist cardiology training in both India and London. During his training, Dr Aggarwal undertook research and a fellowship in Structural Intervention, with a particular focus on TAVI and Adult Congenital Heart Disease Intervention and was awarded a research MD for his work.
He received his CCT in Cardiology and entered the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register in 2015. He was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in the same year. He was the Clinical Lead for Structural Heart Disease Intervention in Liverpool until 2024, when he had the opportunity to join the largest structural and congenital intervention programme in the UK at Barts Heart Centre, working at the cutting edge of the specialty.
Dr Aggarwal has special interests in adult congenital heart disease intervention, coronary artery disease intervention and valvular heart disease intervention. He has a national profile as an interventional cardiologist, having been elected to the Council of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society twice in 2020 and 2023, as well as to their Structural Heart disease and research groups. He is regular speaker at national and international meetings and has a reputation for training and mentoring the next generation of interventional cardiologists.
He is skilled in a number of interventional procedures, including: transcatheter aortic valve intervention (TAVI), mitral edge-to-edge repair (mitral TEER or Mitraclip), Triclip, atrial septal defect (ASD) closure, patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, along with other congenital and valve interventions.
