Dr. Ayesha Akbar is a Consultant Gastroenterologist who qualified from the University of Manchester with honours and undertook her specialist training in gastroenterology in London. She obtained her PhD from Imperial College London, studying the molecular mechanisms of visceral hypersensitivity in the colon. Dr. Akbar has received numerous prestigious awards for her work and holds several management roles. She manages all general gastrointestinal pathologies, focusing on inflammatory bowel disease, abdominal pain, and irritable bowel syndrome. She sub-specializes in neurogastroenterology and is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology Neurogastroenterology committee. Dr. Akbar is actively involved in research, education, and training, having co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and regularly presenting at national and international conferences. She is the national Education Chair of the British Society of Gastroenterology and Research and Development Director for London North West University Healthcare.
