Professor Alan Salama is a renowned Consultant Nephrologist with a specialization in immunological kidney diseases. With over 17 years of clinical experience in renal medicine, he is based at the Royal Free Hospital and serves as the Director of the UCL Department of Renal Medicine. He is also a Professor of Nephrology at University College London.
Professor Salama received his medical degree in London and underwent medical training at various hospitals in Oxford and London, including Guy's Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. He earned his PhD from the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and underwent further postdoctoral specialist training at Brigham and Women's Hospital, which is part of Harvard Medical School in the United States.
Professor Salama has a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of renal health and specializes in kidney transplants, autoimmune diseases, and polycystic kidney disease. He performs all aspects of renal care procedures and transplantation in his current practices. Additionally, he has a special interest in autoimmune conditions that affect the kidney, such as vasculitis and glomerulonephritis.
Apart from his clinical work, Professor Salama actively engages in laboratory research that focuses on autoimmune kidney disease and immune dysfunction. His research aims to develop better diagnostic and treatment techniques.
