Alison Hainsworth

Alison Hainsworth (MBBS BSc MD FRCS) is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with a specialist interest in pelvic floor surgery (pelvic floor lead at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital) and colorectal cancer surgery.

Areas of expertise include - proctology (including perianal fistula, haemorrhoids, anal fissure), colorectal cancer surgery and hereditary bowel cancer, pelvic floor dysfunction (including rectal prolapse, accidental bowel leakage (incontinence), defecatory difficulties, obstetric anal sphincter injury) and pilonidal sinus disease.  

Academia and research - she is an active researcher at Guy's and St Thomas and supervises PhD and BSc students, with research focused on imaging, including integrated total pelvic floor and endoanal ultrasound, and the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction. She regularly chairs international and national courses and workshops to teach integrated total pelvic floor and endoanal ultrasound, and anorectal physiology.  

She is a committee member of the International Continence Society and member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI).
