Dr Alex Georgiou is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Hospital London (GSTT) and King’s College Hospitals. Dr Georgiou specialises in the treatment of thoracic malignancies including lung cancer, mesothelioma and thymic malignancies.
Dr Georgiou is the current clinical lead for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) at GSTT and an honorary senior lecturer at King’s College London (KCL).
Dr Georgiou completed his medical oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital (RMH) in London (2012-19). During his oncology training, in 2015, he was awarded competitive cancer research UK (CRUK) funding and successfully completed a 3-year PhD at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) London. His research investigated the mechanisms of resistance to targeted anti-cancer therapies. For this research he was awarded a Merit award by the European Society of Medical Oncology Congress (ESMO) in 2018 and a University of London scholarship in 2019.
Dr Georgiou is currently UK chief investigator and principal investigator in multiple international clinical trials of novel therapeutics for the treatment of lung cancer and mesothelioma. He is also leading locally (GSTT and KCL) on academic research aiming to improve earlier stage diagnosis treatments and outcomes of lung cancer patients. He has published in the field of oncology extensively (Alexandros Georgiou). He has been invited to present at national and international oncology conferences. He is a clinical advisor to the UK lung cancer charity: ‘EGFR Positive UK’.
