About

Mr. Mark Phillips is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with many years of experience in adult hand and wrist surgery, trauma surgery, elbow conditions, and complex injury surgery. He has a particular interest in performance-related conditions in musicians and sees private patients at the London Bridge Hospital.

Mr. Phillips earned his primary medical qualification in Cambridge in 1989 and after basic surgical training and a research post at the Royal Free Hospital, he completed specialist training in Orthopaedics & Trauma on the King’s College Hospital rotation. After higher surgical training, he completed two fellowships: one in hand surgery in the Plastic Surgical Department at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, and a second in fracture reconstruction in the University of Pisa, Italy.

After 14 years as an NHS Consultant, the last 12 of which at King’s College Hospital, he now exclusively consults privately. Mr. Phillips is an enthusiastic teacher and has taught at all levels to the public, allied healthcare professionals, medical students, and other consultants. As well as convening courses related to complex fracture management, he has been invited to be a faculty member at meetings around the UK and across Europe.

His main area of academic interest at King's was related to the management of bone defects created by high-energy trauma and the use of technology such as growth factors to enhance healing.

It is important that HCA is transparent about our relationship with those doctors who provide us with clinical guidance on delivering the best possible care to patients and operating our hospitals safely and efficiently. We set out here some of the ways in which we work together and the amount we pay this doctor for such services.
