Consultants with a proven track record

A group of eminent consultant surgeons

Santis’ prostate cancer surgeons are among the most experienced consultants in the world and have recently been voted by their peers as the best urologists in Britain. Santis is the only clinic where all its surgeons have made this List, a testament to their technical expertise and skill, and their pioneering treatments. London Bridge Hospital are proud to work with Professor Christopher Eden and Mr Declan Cahill.

The most advanced equipment in these surgeons’ skilled hands

The Da Vinci® Xi robotic surgical system is the most advanced robot of its kind. It allows skilled surgeons to make the most precise movements with even greater control. The device also couples powerful cameras with 3D vision to maximise visibility during procedures. Using the Da Vinci® Xi robot means a greater likelihood of a successful outcome, preserved sexual function and faster recovery time.

Dedicated to innovation

Since the UK’s first laparoscopic (keyhole) operation for prostate cancer in 2000, undertaken by, Professor Christopher Eden, the team have been dedicated to pushing boundaries in improving care and utilising innovative techniques even further. The Retzius-sparing technique, also pioneered by Professor Eden and performed by all Santis surgeons, appears to significantly improve early continence after prostate cancer surgery.

Robotic radical prostatectomy

Since pioneering radical prostatectomy in the UK in 2001, Santis consultants have carried out over 7,000 procedures. The team exclusively offers robotically-assisted radical prostatectomy, also known as RARP, a type of minimally invasive laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. During the procedure, the prostate is removed using five small cuts in the lower abdomen. This means clients can expect a quicker recovery time compared to traditional ‘open’ surgery. Lymph nodes are also removed in more advanced prostate cancers.

For robotic radical prostatectomy, Mr Cahill’s results are equivalent to the best-published results in the world for cancer margins, continence and potency. He operates on more than 100 patients with prostate cancer each year, ranking him among the highest volume prostate surgeons in the UK.
