Dietetics. Expert nutritional analysis and advice for our inpatients and outpatients.
Our nutritional services are designed to enhance your care in many ways - from helping you manage a long-term digestive condition to supporting your recovery from an operation or sports injury.
Your consultant and/or dietitian will talk to you about your symptoms, your condition and eating habits in order to evaluate your diet. They work closely with you and other members of your healthcare team to put together an eating plan that's practical, achievable and tailored to your needs.
You might be asked to take a hydrogen breath test (HBT). It's a simple, non-invasive test used to diagnose food intolerances and irritable bowel syndrome. We also have a specialist sports nutrition clinic, and a clinic dedicated to IBS. Your GP or consultant could refer you directly to one of these.
Your consultant will tell you how to prepare for your consultation. In the days or weeks leading up to your appointment, you might be asked to keep a food diary. This'll help your consultant get an accurate idea of what you eat and drink, and your eating habits.
If your consultant has asked you to follow an eating plan, they'll want to see you again for a follow-up appointment. If they have any other recommendations, they'll let you know during your consultation.
