About audiology

As the largest private provider of diagnostic and rehabilitative hearing services, we offer tests and treatments that are usually only found in a small number of teaching hospitals and research facilities. We investigate, diagnose and treat a range of conditions in both adults and children. These include conductive hearing loss, glue ear, sensorineural hearing loss (damage to the hair cells in the cochlea), newborn hearing investigation, balance problems and central auditory processing disorders. We can also support medical legal work for noise-induced hearing losses and head injury cases.

Expertise

Our audiology consultants are leaders in their field and work closely with ear, nose and throat consultants, as well as Auditory-Verbal UK.

Need to know

A cochlear implant is an electronic device that can be suitable for those who are profoundly deaf. It has several different parts — some are surgically implanted under the skin and some are worn on the body. It works by stimulating the nerves in the inner ear to send sound signals to the brain.

Speech audiometry helps to determine the degree and type of hearing loss a person has. It is used to assess your word recognition abilities, your level of discomfort or tolerance to speech stimuli and to determine the correct levels for any amplifying devices, such as hearing aids.
