Sam Singh was the Lead Foot and Ankle Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’, a leading London teaching hospital, from 2005 to 2022. Over nearly two decades, he played a key role in training the next generation of NHS specialists, with 15 Foot and Ankle NHS consultants in the South East having trained directly under him through the fellowship programme he founded. After many years of NHS service, he transitioned to full-time private practice – a decision driven by an increasing demand for his expertise and the demands of private practice – bringing with him the same level of expertise, dedication and patient-focused care.
He graduated from Cambridge University and completed his training in Boston, USA. He remains the only British surgeon to have ever been awarded the specialist fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery from Harvard University. He is widely regarded as one of London’s premier Foot and Ankle specialists and offers the latest proven techniques for managing all foot and ankle disorders, including ankle sports injuries, ankle pain and arthritis, bunions and hammertoes, Morton’s neuroma, Achilles disorders, and plantar fasciitis. His treatments include minimally invasive foot surgery.
His ethos is to take a “hands-on” approach, personally assisting patients every step of the way to ensure they quickly get the care they need – for example, connecting the patient with the right physiotherapist, advising on the quickest and most affordable scan option and injecting at the same appointment where possible. He takes pride in looking after all his patients, whether in clinic or in surgery. His commitment to patient care is mirrored by his support team, who prioritise attention to detail and responsive communication. The practice has seen the value of this hands-on approach reflected in the confidence his patients feel about their care, which has led to a strong and consistent demand for his services – and his busy practice.
His dedication to helping patients led him to serve as Senior Editor on bunions and Morton’s neuroma for the UK’s leading patient resource, NHS Choices. He also regularly shares his expertise on podcasts, which have proven invaluable for patients looking to deepen their understanding of their condition. Notably, his podcast on conservative versus surgical management of Achilles tendon rupture has gained international traction for providing a uniquely balanced perspective on the subject, allowing patients to evaluate and digest the pros and cons at their own pace.
He also regularly publishes in academic and popular media as well as providing patients with a wealth of articles and videos offering useful advice on foot and ankle conditions and recovery via his website.
His reputation is reflected in outstanding patient feedback on Doctify and PHIN (Private Healthcare Information Network), where his surgical outcome data is openly published. With more than 800 recommendations on Doctify and nearly 500 on PHIN, he is a popular choice with patients for their Foot and Ankle needs. The high volume of patients he sees equates to more frequent exposure to a vast range of conditions, in turn translating to an ability to diagnose rarer conditions as well as greater experience in treating the more common ones.
He is passionate about his work, delivering his patients their care in a reassuring manner with a sprinkling of good humour – and never speaking down to them.
He is recognised as a Platinum BUPA provider and is a preferred provider of all insurance companies as his charges always fall within their guidelines.
