Dr. Farrukh Shah is a consultant haematologist with a primary role as medical director for transfusion at Blood and Transplant. She specializes in general haematology with particular interests in thalassaemia major, thalassaemia intermedia, iron overload disorders, haemachromatosis, and iron deficiency. She leads one of the largest thalassaemia centers in the UK and is internationally recognized as an expert in these conditions. Dr. Shah graduated from the University of Punjab in 1994 with an MBBS degree and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1997 and a Member of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2001. She completed a Doctorate of Medicine in 2008 at University College London.Dr. Shah is actively involved in clinical trials for thalassaemia and sickle cell disease and has been a Chief Investigator and Primary Investigator for several clinical trials in these disorders. She has written book chapters and published widely in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Shah is also the Chair of the UK Forum on Haemoglobin Disorders and the current Chair of the National Haemoglobinopathy Registry. Her extensive work in haematology has led to her being a leading figure in the field.
