Dr Selwyn Dexter is an Honorary Consultant Physician to the University College London (NHS Foundation Trust).He is based at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery where he sees patients in the Long Covid Clinic, based there.
He is also a medical acupuncturist who assess and treats common as well as complex medical and neurological conditions. He has an extensive of experience in medical practice, of over 30 years, both privately and within the National Health Service..
Dr Dexter is available as a second opinion for difficult medical problems and diagnoses. He has built up an extensive network of consultant medical and surgical specialists for ongoing advice when necessary.
Dr Dexter has a specialist interest in migraine and recurrent head pain having been attached to a specialist migraine clinic at St Bartholomew's Hospital for 16 years. As well as seeing migraine patients he has carried out research making novel discoveries and publishing original papers, including the British Medical Journal.
He has a particular interest in headache related to sexual activity.
Dr Dexter has been a fully accredited member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) since 1995. Acupuncture can be a valuable treatment in migraine and in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. Besides general medical conditions, Medical Acupuncture It can also assist with gynaecological symptoms, including menstrual and pelvic pain, endometriosis and is commonly used to assist fertility issues.
Dr Dexter has a special interest in using acupuncture to increase tear flow in keratoconus and some other dry eye conditions.
Dr Dexter is also recognised by most major medical insurance companies for acupuncture.
