Ms Seema Seetharam completed her medical studies in 1995 at Mangalore University, India. She continued to complete her Basic Surgical Training, including time spent undertaking formal research in the West of Scotland region. She undertook specialist training in Breast and Oncoplastic surgery in the South East London region including institutions such as Guys hospital, London and PRUH, Bromley. She became one of the first-ever cohorts of surgeons to receive the award of Fellow of the European Board of Surgery Qualification (FEBS) in Breast Surgery in 2010. She achieved a remarkable career promotion by becoming a Consultant Oncoplastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon in 2010.
Ms Seetharam has experience in managing a variety of breast disease types (benign and malignant). Part of her service is a one-stop clinic consultation including Triple assessment (clinical examination, imaging and biopsy as needed) and she receives support from the finest team of radiologists, pathologists, oncologists and Breast Clinical Nurse Specialists. She is an expert in Reconstructive Breast Surgery, and is able to use techniques such as implant-based reconstruction, Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM), Lipofilling (fat transfer) and Nipple areolar reconstruction. She is a particular clinical interest in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, a cosmetically ultimate means of achieving breast conservation; for example, in a patient with cancer in a large breast, a reduction mammoplasty compared to standard lumpectomy provides a more satisfactory result considering both oncologically and aesthetically. Another service she offers is a variety of Cosmetic Breast Surgical procedures like Augmentation, Reduction, Mastopexy and Symmetrisation.
Ms Seetharam provides clinical consultations for patients having a family history of breast cancer. Her research efforts have allowed her to publish a number of publications with presentations at meetings held nationally and internationally. She regularly attends international conferences and she loves to disseminate knowledge and experience. She is additionally interested in surgical training and has been a Surgical Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England until 2014. She strongly advocates public education and awareness. When it comes to breast disease, she has carried out workshops and has been called upon for talks for GPs, patients and the public. Ms Seetharam also works to fundraise for her NHS Breast Unit when she is less busy.
Compassion and personalised care that provides a positive patient experience even under challenges is her ethos. She runs a breast service providing a high standard of comprehensive care (within her NHS and private practice).
