Kidney Stone Service: Diagnosis, management and an individual treatment plan

London Bridge Hospital , 27 Tooley Street , London, SE1 2PR

What sets us apart?

The Kidney Stones Service is tailor-made to your requirements. We offer same day diagnoses through our combination of diagnostic tests and cutting-edge imaging, available onsite. Our team of experts from teaching hospitals deliver a comprehensive range of treatments, including surgical and non-surgical options, often on the same day as your diagnosis.

The Kidney Stone Service has a unique multidisciplinary approach. We aim to give every patient seamless and effective care and ensure every treatment plan is tailored to their individual needs. We are also able to review images taken elsewhere and provide diagnoses and treatments based on these.

Rapid treatment and diagnosis

We offer same-day appointments with a consultant, and always aim to diagnose your condition on the day that you come in. Our state-of-the-art diagnostics, include a wide variety of tests and scans, and our uroradiologist will be there to analyse and give you your results as soon as we have them.

Treatment options

We have a range of treatment options including lithotripsy, a service that is led by Mr Matthew Bultitude. Lithotripsy is a non-surgical procedure often used as a first line treatment for kidney stones. Unlike surgical treatments lithotripsy does not require an incision to be made, can be performed under local anaesthetic and patients can go home shortly after the procedure. Other options offered by The Kidney Stone Service include ureteroscopy and laser as well as PCNL (keyhole surgery) for larger stones.

Patient-centred care

Our team are there to support you throughout your stay. All of our patients have access to a Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist who is available to answer any queries and guide patients during their treatment.

Our clinical team will also provide you with dietary and lifestyle guidance to help to keep you healthy after your stay with us.

End-to-end service for complex cases

We have a team of world-class experts in complex care that have experience in treating even the most severe kidney stones. If you need emergency care, we are even able to offer emergency lithotripsy or admission for ureteroscopy.

Operations are also carried out in-house, as we have all of the most advanced equipment including, advanced endoscopic cameras and laser technologies meaning we can access even the most complex stone, and provide a truly one-stop care for our patients at the London Bridge Hospital campus.

The team is also able to investigate and treat other urological conditions including urinary infections, obstruction and cancer of the kidneys and ureter.
