Does my baby need neonatal care?
If your baby is born prematurely or shows signs of being unwell during the first hours or days of their life, they may need special neonatal care. This is to help keep your baby warm, stabilise their breathing and provide nourishment if they are struggling to feed.
We understand that it can be worrying and disorientating if your child needs to go into neonatal care, but our outstanding consultants and specialist nursing team will be there to support you and find the best course of treatment and care for your child.
Monitoring and caring for babies born from 28 weeks gestation onwards requires a great deal of experience and specialist knowledge. Our team of consultant neonatologists and neonatal nurses are pioneers in this field, renowned for the invention of life-support systems for babies and the development of brain injury treatment for preterm and term newborn infants.
Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at The Portland
The Portland Hospital is the only private maternity hospital in London with its own on-site neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This is expertly equipped to monitor and care for both Portland-delivered babies and babies with complex medical or post-surgical problems who can be transferred to us.
