Caring for you throughout your pregnancy. Our midwifery service provides antenatal and postnatal support, care and guidance for women who are having a baby
Midwives specialise in looking after pregnant women who are expected to have a straightforward pregnancy and birth. The relationship you have with your midwife becomes increasingly important and valuable. They're with you from the start of your pregnancy, supporting you through labour and the first 28 days of your baby's life, they lead antenatal classes, prepare you for what to expect and advise on things like breastfeeding.
You usually meet your midwife for the first time before you're 10 weeks pregnant. During this appointment, they carry out routine tests and assessments. You see them every four weeks until you're 28 weeks, every two weeks until you're 36 weeks then once a week after that. As your due date approaches, we make sure you meet all our midwives. This is so you feel comfortable and happy around the people you and your baby are likely to encounter during your stay.
At The Portland Hospital, we offer a Midwife-led Delivery and a Consultant-led Delivery. Our team of midwives are dedicated to making sure your pregnancy experience are calm and managed as it can be.
Our midwife- delivery packages can be accessed from 10, 20 or 30 weeks during your pregnancy. This option includes all antenatal appointments, ultrasound scans, routinely-required blood tests, midwife-led birth and the first 24 hours stay from admission to hospital.
