Mr. Stephen Ward is an accomplished Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon, known for his expertise and contributions to the field. He graduated with top honours from St George's Hospital London in 2003, excelling in clinical sciences. During his academic journey, he earned a first-class honours degree in Basic Medical Sciences, receiving recognition for his outstanding performance in clinical exams.
Mr. Ward underwent basic surgical training in Kent and South London before joining the Higher Surgical Training programme in the West Midlands. Alongside his surgical pursuits, he pursued a PhD in cancer immunology at the University of Birmingham, focusing on understanding how certain immune cells affect colorectal cancer.
Throughout his career, Mr. Ward has received research grants from prestigious institutions such as the Medical Research Council and various cancer charities. He also gained valuable experience during a fellowship at the University Medical Centre of Amsterdam, specialising in the treatment of rectal cancer.
Mr. Ward is skilled in laparoscopic surgery and uses minimally invasive techniques to treat conditions like bowel cancer and hernias. He also focuses on treating anal fistula disease and is actively involved in the Proctology Committee of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland.
Mr. Ward's interests also include analysing large sets of medical data to improve surgical practices. He has developed systems to analyse outcomes of colorectal surgery, demonstrating his dedication to advancing patient care.
As a respected figure in the surgical community, Mr. Ward is a member of esteemed organisations such as the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Hernia Society. He actively participates in clinical audit meetings, mentors trainees, and serves as a registered trainer with the General Medical Council.
