Mr. Ricci Plastow serves as a Consultant Orthopaedic and trauma surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstructive surgery. He holds a consultant position at The Princess Grace Hospital, affiliated with HCA Healthcare UK, and at University College London Hospitals.
Graduating from Manchester University Medical School in 2008 with an MBBS, Mr. Plastow commenced his training in hip and knee surgery in Manchester. He achieved the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2017 and obtained his consultant certificate in 2019. Further enriching his expertise, he participated in an esteemed fellowship program in Vancouver, Canada, focusing on soft tissue knee sports injuries. Returning to London, he completed a fellowship in arthroplasty and robotic surgery under Professor Haddad for one year.
Mr. Plastow specializes in lower limb arthroplasty surgery and various forms of knee surgery, encompassing hip and knee joint replacements, partial knee joint replacement, robotic-assisted joint replacement, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, multiligament knee reconstruction, meniscal surgery, cartilage surgery (including cartilage restoration treatments), joint preservation through osteotomy, and patellofemoral stabilization (kneecap stabilization).
He holds the role of research lead for the British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association (BOSTAA) and serves as the Training lead for the Royal College of Surgeons Robotic and Digital Assisted Surgery (RADAR) group, advancing the use of digital technology in Orthopaedic surgical training within the NHS. Additionally, Mr. Plastow is the lower limb teaching lead for the UCL MSc Orthopaedic course, demonstrating a commitment to educating students from medical school to surgeons in training. His research interests include sports injuries in elite athletes and the advancement of technologies such as robotic surgery.
