Professor Kathleen Fan is a leading Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. She qualified in dentistry from Guy's, University of London, and developed an interest in oral & maxillofacial surgery during her early training, which encouraged her to pursue a degree in Medicine. She qualified in Medicine in 2000 from St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Medical School, University of London. Between her two clinical degrees, she completed her PhD at University College London in Photodynamic Therapy and Head and Neck Cancer. Her interest in photodynamic therapy and lasers continued, and she has been on many expert panels and the Department of Health Advisory Panel on the Application of Photodynamic Therapy, as well as being a Council member of the British Medical Laser Association. She has trained at several prestigious units and centers of excellence across the UK, including King's College, Guy's, The Queen Victoria Kent, and Canterbury. Professor Fan is a well-respected surgeon nationally and internationally, holding high-profile positions within her specialty. Her clinical expertise includes skin cancer: photodynamic therapy, excision, and reconstruction; temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems; salivary gland surgery; surgery for oral pathology: jaw cyst, soft tissue lesions; orthognathic jaw surgery to correct jaw alignment and facial profile; facial trauma; oral surgery: wisdom, dental extractions, orthodontic extractions, and tooth uncovering; diagnosis and management of oral mucosal disease including tumors and growth.
