Professor Guy Pratt is a distinguished figure in the field of haematology, holding the position of Professor of Haematology (Haemato-Oncology). Additionally, he serves as the Deputy Director of the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit, overseeing haematology trials. With extensive expertise in his field, Professor Pratt is involved in various professional bodies, acting as the secretary for both the British Society for Haematology and the UK Myeloma Society, and serving as a trustee for the charity Cure Leukaemia.
As an Honorary Consultant Haematologist, Professor Pratt is actively engaged in clinical practice, specialising in multiple myeloma, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinaemia, plasma cell disorders such as amyloidosis, and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). He graduated from Cambridge University in 1989, followed by specialised training in haematology in Liverpool and Leeds, where he completed an MD thesis focusing on multiple myeloma.
Professor Pratt has played key roles in shaping national guidelines and policies in haematology, notably serving as the clinical lead for the 2016 NICE myeloma guidelines. His dedication to advancing research is evident through his involvement in numerous research collaborations, including clinical trials both locally and nationally. He is a valued member of the UK Myeloma trials group (UKMRA) and has contributed significantly to the development of treatment protocols and standards of care in haematological malignancies.
