Caris is a Consultant Laparoscopic General and Colorectal Surgeon with interests including inflammatory bowel disease, bowel cancers and diverticular disease. She is also an accredited endoscopist, performing both colonoscopies and gastroscopies.

Caris worked as a Consultant Surgeon at Medway NHS Foundation Trust in Kent for 7 years before moving to London in 2023. She was the Associate Medical Director for patient safety and quality at Medway and was the independent Secondary Care doctor on the Governing Body of Surrey Heartlands CCG before its transistion to an Integrated Care System in 2022. She was their non-Executive director lead for patient safety.

Caris is the co-lead for a national trial on the use of exclusive enteral nutrition before Crohn's disease surgery. She volunteers with Kings Centre for Global Health Partnerships where she leads for surgery on the Kings - Zambia partnership. Caris is registered with the Royal College of Pathologists and works as a Medical Examiner at the East Surrey Hospital.
