Dr. Andrew King is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at The Harborne Hospital and experienced in managing a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including indigestion, abdominal pain, and liver test abnormalities.

With a special focus on liver disease, Dr. King excels in the assessment and treatment of conditions such as fatty liver, viral hepatitis, and alcohol-related liver disease. He offers comprehensive care for patients with various liver and biliary disorders, including cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Dr. King is highly skilled in endoscopy and collaborates closely with colleagues in radiology and surgery to deliver multidisciplinary care, incorporating advanced endoscopic techniques and surgical procedures. He also evaluates patients for liver transplantation when necessary.

Having graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, London in 2001, Dr. King completed his specialist training across various hospitals in the West Midlands, including advanced training at the Queen Elizabeth Liver Unit. He furthered his academic pursuits by obtaining a Medical Research Council fellowship and completing a PhD at the University of Birmingham, focusing on stem cell therapy in liver disease. His groundbreaking research included conducting the first randomised clinical trial using stem cells in patients with cirrhosis.

Dr. King remains actively involved in research and clinical trials, ensuring that his patients have access to the latest advancements in liver disease treatment. He is dedicated to training the next generation of specialists and serves as the training programme director for Gastroenterology in the West Midlands. As an accredited supervisor by the General Medical Council (GMC), Dr. King also mentors aspiring gastroenterologists and serves as an esteemed endoscopic trainer on regional training courses.
