Low-dose CT of the thorax

This is a non-invasive and highly accurate diagnostic test available to both men and women

Lung screening service

Why choose lung screening?

If you’re experiencing common symptoms of lung conditions or are at an increased risk of an underlying lung disease, you may benefit from a lung screening. We offer rapid access to our lung screening service across the majority of our hospitals, which involves a low-dose CT scan of the thorax (chest).

The CT scanner will take detailed 2D and 3D images of inside your body as you lie in the middle of the scanner, and a consultant can diagnose a range of conditions from these images, including cancers, asthma and infections.

We’ve invested in some of the fastest, low-dose CT scanners available in the UK, so you can receive a clear diagnosis with very minimal exposure to radiation while you’re in the scanner.

What is a CT scan?

Our lung specialists

At HCA UK, consultants and radiographers will report on your scans as soon as possible, which means most patients receive their results within 48 hours. If your scan suggests you might need more investigations, a full lung health check with a respiratory physician is available, as are a wide range of further diagnostic tests and scans, including X-Ray, Ultrasound and Lung Biopsy.

If you need further care, we work with some of the UK’s leading respiratory physicians, as well as consultants across cardiothoracic surgery, oncology and ear, nose and throat surgery (ENT) to ensure you receive specialist support, whatever your condition.
