Our paediatric cardiology services care for children with conditions affecting the heart’s walls, heart valves and blood vessels. We perform complex operations to save the lives of premature babies and correct heart defects in infants and children. The Portland Hospital is the only independent hospital in the UK specialising in paediatric congenital heart treatments, while The Harley Street Clinic can offer highly-specialised, low-dose radiation scans for paediatric patients with congenital heart conditions.

Our aim is to create an environment where you and your child feel happy and relaxed, and where you can be confident that your child is receiving the very best medical care and attention. The Portland Hospital has a dedicated unit for the care of babies and children with heart disease, fully supported by advanced diagnostics, catheter and electrophysiology laboratories, operating theatres and a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

Alex’s irregular heart palpitations

At the age of 12, dancer Alex Brookes began experiencing irregular heart palpations. After initially being told it was nothing to worry about, her symptoms persisted and her mum decided it was best to seek medical advice.

After years of misdiagnoses, Alex finally received successful treatment for her heart palpitations.

Treating Helaina's heart rhythm disorder

Helaina was just 16 when she began experiencing unusual symptoms, including shortness of breath and heart palpitations, which rapidly worsened. She was otherwise fit, healthy and a huge lover of the great outdoors, leading to her family to grow concerned.
