What is hyperhidrosis?

Whilst excessive sweating isn't usually a sign of anything serious, it can have a negative impact on your life.

We offer a range of surgical and non-surgical treatments that can help reduce the amount you sweat and improve your quality of life.

Need to know

Your consultant may suggest having muscle relaxant injections to block the sweat glands in the affected area.

Another non-surgical procedure called iontophoresis involves putting your hands and feet in a bowl of water whilst a weak electrical current is passed through your body.

You can also have nerve tissue removed as part of a procedure called VATS (video-assisted thorascopic sympathectomy).

Other surgical procedures involve having your sweat glands removed by scraping them away (retrodermal curretage) or by using lasers (ultrasound liposuction curettage and laser sweat ablation).
Like all procedures, there may be some risks and side effects involved. Your consultant will explain these to you and answer any questions you might have. If you're having general anaesthetic, your consultant will tell you how long you should avoid eating and drinking beforehand.
Your consultant will speak to you about aftercare and pain relief - if you need any. They'll also let you know when you can get back to your usual routine. You won't be able to drive home so please arrange for someone to pick you up.
