DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT FOR HEARING AND LISTENING DIFFICULTIES
Screening for APD can involve a number of different assessments to confirm a diagnosis and help to manage the condition
APD is a hearing condition caused by the brain not interpreting sounds correctly. It can affect children as well as adults. In children, it can be caused by developmental disorders and conditions including glue ear or epilepsy.
You can also develop the condition later in life following a stroke or brain injury. Common symptoms of APD include difficulty distinguishing between sounds and difficulty concentrating on or understanding speech in a noisy environment.
If your consultant suspects you or your child have APD, they may suggest a number of diagnostic tests to screen for the disorder. The tests we offer may include a combination of hearing tests, questionnaires, speech and language assessments and electrophysiological tests to measure your brain's response to sound.
If you or you child is diagnosed with APD, your consultant may suggest auditory training to help manage the condition.
